Abstract
The authors studied clinically on 160 cases of viral hepatitis who were admitted to Pediatric Department from June, 1968 to May, 1972.
The following results were obtained.
1. Annual incidence: No remarkable outbreaks or increasing tendency. (0.6^?0.86%)
2. Age distribution: Highest among 4 to 6 year-group. (27.5%)
3. Sex ratio: somewhat prevalent in. male. (male : female= 1. 63 : 1)
4. Seasonal variation: Increased incidence in Autumn and Winter. (peak in December)
5. Icteric form is more frequent than anicteric one. (3.6 : 1)
6. Clinical manifestations: Hepatomegaly(98. 6%), jaundice(78. 7%), abdominal pain and discomfort (70.0%), vomiting (56.2%), and fatigability (50.6%) were frequently found.
7. Liver function test: Serum transaminases were most sensitive ones (G.O.T. and G.P.T. values were increased in 93.7% and 95% of measured cases respectively), and alkaline phosphates, T.T.T. and bilirubin values were less sensitive. The 6-8 weeks follow-up study showed that bilirubin value was normalized in ¢¥100%, G.O.T. in 86.7%, G.P.T. in 87. 3%, alkaline phosphates in 92. 6%, and T.T.T. in 94.6% of cases.
8. Australia antigen study was done in 13 cases, but the results were all negative.
